Friends of Gosforth School

Who we are

FoGS is a friendly, voluntary committee made up of parents whose children attend the school, school staff and school governors who have an interest in the school. The main objectives of the group are:

• to raise money for supplementary items which will benefit the children who attend the school;

• to consider how the money raised could be spent;

• to support the school community.

How else do we help?

We help in many ways other than just purchasing resources and funding visits and visitors for the children - we pride ourselves in supporting the school community at a range of events. Some recent things we have done include:

Providing refreshments for the children at Sports Day;

Organising film nights;

Creating wrapping paper and Christmas cards with professional artwork on to sell to the community; Holding discos for the children;

Providing refreshments at Harvest and Remembrance Day services;

Helping at the Christmas Fair;

Selling programmes and organising the raffle at the Christmas plays.

How do the children benefit?

One of our main objectives is to raise money to fund resources, visits and visitors to enhance provision for all children in school. We have recently funded, or agreed funding for, a wide variety of things, such as:

Subsidising the annual Year 6 residential visit;

Funding iPads so children have one between two;

Funding for a 3D printer for the whole school;

Funding transport for the whole school trip to Theatre by the Lake;

Purchasing books for the school library for all children to enjoy;

Funding the Magic Carpet Theatre visit for the whole school.
